Black Girl Magic

Black Creative on The Rise

Brittani Fisher, a music artist who grew up in the Bay, now resides in Hollywood Ca. As a black creative, she strives to be unique by remaining herself and living life to the fullest.

Q: Where were you born and where did you grow up?

A: San Francisco. I grew up in the Bay Area, once I moved from San Francisco I was mainly in areas like Oakland San Leandro & Richmond.

Q: What inspires you?

A: My family, my future, my present, my past, my lyrics. Being able to hear, feel & see my growth. Nature, sunsets. New people & hearing their stories. Traveling. Sunsets. Love.

Q: How do you define creativity?

A: An original thought that forms into a ball of magic with applied actions.

Q: What has been your biggest struggle as a black creative?

A: It seems like sometimes simply being an artist in your full authentic self, turns into some secret competition with other women that are artists as well, that I didn’t know about. The lack of reciprocated support between artists is a struggle. I’d also say maintaining my budget while finding the balance between saving and spending.

Q: Do you use creativity to escape?

A: It definitely helps me vent. I would write a lot about heartbreak in the past and I realized I had to change the narrative to receive what I actually wanted, which was love. So now I write more expressively than from a place of rage and emotion. I still do use it to escape when I’m upset and almost every time I come up with a clever song & feel ten times better.

Q: What in your personal life has influenced you to choose your career?

A: Art chose me. My family was a huge influence. Growing up I was potty trained with a song my aunt made up and my mother used headphones to play music while I was in her belly. Both sides are musically inclined as my father sings and mother does too, both were in choirs in church. It came very naturally for me.

Q: Do you strive to be unique in your creative endeavors? Please explain.

A: Absolutely while still remaining myself. I try to be most creative with the content I post on social media. As far as music goes, I just strive to give my heart and what’s in me can’t be duplicated.

Q: What do you do to keep yourself motivated and interested in your work?

A: Life. I do life. I live. Each experience has taught me more about myself and each person around me

Q: What is the best advice that you have been given?

A: Stay true to yourself. Experience is the best teacher.

Q: How do you make the leap from an idea in your head to the action you produce?

A: I plan and then execute. It’s truly that simple when you’re focused know your resources and know exactly what you want to do; you just do it.

Q: Do you have any upcoming projects or events? If so, what are they?

A: SXSW March 2022!

Q: If you can give advice to an ASPIRING creative in your field of work, what would you tell them?

A: The no’s get easier, keep going!

Q: What are your social media handles?
